Christian Education
The of Sunday Morning Worship |
Following the example of Jesus as teacher, we believe that our educational mission is to share with people the sense of joy and union with the Father that Jesus enjoyed. Each Gospel writer provides a distinct and fascinating portrayal of Jesus as a gifted teacher. By reading closely we find that
• Jesus’ teaching was authoritative.
• Jesus’ teaching was not authoritarian.
• Jesus’ teaching encouraged people to think and reflect.
• Jesus lived what he taught.
• Jesus had a love for those he taught.
We strive to incorporate these principles in our educational programs for children and adults.
Our Christian education for children is an exciting exploration into the world of the bible and the life of Jesus and his call on our lives. Using dynamic programs as well as more traditional Sunday School experiences we hope to provide opportunities for age-appropriate faith development and Christ growth. Through these programs we teach our children to take responsibility for them selves and their actions as they relate to others in the local church, the community, and the world.
We recognize that the experience of serving others, through acts of mercy, compassion, or the promotions of social justice, is an important influence on the deepening of faith. Some of the best religious education occurs in those moments of giving, of connection, of bonding to other. It is a way to put faith in action.
• Learning about Jesus is the cornerstone of our educational programs for children and adults.
• Service to others is an important component of our educational programs.
• We have special Advent and Lenten programs for adults and children.
• Adult Inquirer’s Class is held each year for those who wish to join the church, those who wish to receive adult confirmation, and those who wish to renew their confirmation vows, or those who just wish to learn more about the Episcopal church, its faith, its history, and its practices.
• We offer communion and confirmation classes with the rector for children who would like preparation for receiving those sacraments.
• We have a special weekday and a weeknight Bible studies which provide additional opportunities for adults to study and discuss the word of God.
